Myspace is one of the “smaller potatoes” that should be forgotten. Back in 2005, Myspace had reached its peak, but then came along Facebook and Twitter, which have taken over the social networking crown. Recently Myspace has relaunched and has had commercials on tv trying to promote it. Justin Timberlake has bought out Myspace, and a lot of people are using it to get their music out there. Myspace should be forgotten all together because it lacked loyalty to its users, “MySpace failed to adapt and appeal to its original market as they left their mid-teens and became young adults.” (O’Reilly). These teens who originally had Myspace when it was the cool new thing to have, turned to other social networks eventually and gave up on Myspace. Another reason why Myspace should just disappear is its lack of innovation. Yes, Myspace has updated the look of it and made it more appealing, but it isn’t as user friendly as Facebook. “Even with October’s redesign, MySpace still operates in a similar way to when it first launched, with only a handful of minor usability updates over the last five years.” (O’Reilly). Finally one last reason as to why Myspace should be forgotten is its lack of understanding itself. Myspace needs to come to terms that it will not make it to where Facebook and Twitter are right now. It had its peak and now it is just kind of fading.

I love the reasons you gave for your reasons of why Myspace should be forgotten and I completely agree. I used to be one of the middle school girls that would post everything on there and I absolutely loved it, until Facebook came around and offered something that was easier to use and better to communicate with friends and family on. I completely agree that they left their users behind especially by not adapting to the changes that were happening in society. Also, I agree because no matter what different social media sites people come up with people are always going back to Facebook and Twitter. For example, Path was a social media site that came out like a year ago and you never hear anyone talking about it or raving over it. According to the Tech Chronicles, “While 1 million people signed up for Path, including several of my civilian friends, by the end of version 1.0 it had just 10,000 monthly users.” This shows significantly that Facebook and Twitter have really learned how to keep up with the changing society and keep its users interested.

Hey Samantha! Although I loved your ideas, I don't agree that Myspace should be forgotten. The old MySpace may not appeal to our generation anymore but the new Myspace has been transformed into a social media site focused on music. The newly renovated site is comparable to a mix of the very popular apps, Spotify, Facebook and Pinterest. (Pachal, 2013) Myspace's new purpose is to connect users through music. The new site is also backed by Justin Timberlake who is very well known, loved, and trusted by our generation. I think that if more people explored the new Myspace, they would find it very appealing. Since the site has been renovated, it is no longer the blue and white, antiquated Myspace that we once remember. Myspace dropped the capital S on MySpace, and re-did the whole site, focusing on the aesthetics, comparable to the beautiful app Pinterest. (Pachal, 2013) Moreover, Myspace still has a social aspect to it, like Facebook, just focusing more on music. Because Myspace has been transformed by Justin Timberlake into a music based site, I think that it still appeals to many people who once used the old MySpace. I also believe that the renovation to Myspace is innovative and has showed users they still want to be a power social media site, therefore I don't think that the site should be forgotten. The new aesthetics of Myspace added with the new focus of the site makes it an innovative social media site that should become more recognized.
